White Floral 50's blouse

Before shooting these photos, I cut in some bangs, not sure if I love them yet, growing on me.

What do you think of this belt?

Over the winter, I made a ton of clothing, but I haven't really posted everything yet. Me-Made-May 2012 is gently pushing me into wearing and posting the stuff I have hidden in my sewing room.  So today I wanted to wear this blouse, but realized you haven't seen it yet.  I found this fabric at Joann's last year and really liked the print. Anyone remember seeing it there? Well, I bought only 1 1/2 yards, not sure what I was thinking. Then, I discovered a hole right in the middle of the yardage. I wasn't sure how to get around it, with so little fabric to work with. It's times like these, I wish I would have bought a little more. In the end, after moving around a few pattern pieces, I was able to get it together! I have matched this blouse with the peach colored skirt I made earlier this year. I like the combo. This pinkish vintage bracelet works well too! The little green buttons aren't vintage, but I think they add a nice touch to the blouse.

Blouse fabric: 100% cotton, skirt is linen
Pattern: Simplicity 4530 from the 50's
Make again? Yes, I like the blouse very comfortable

Have a wonderful Vintage Day!

Gina

  7. Cute blouse Gena I have lots of fabric at one yard and a little more for my quilting which I don't do anymore. I gave a lot away to Cookie my friend who likes to make aprons but did keep a lot in case I ever get to quilting again. I have some fabric similar to this that is enough to make a blouse, the thing is it's so cool here I usually always make 3/4 sleeves it's not very often short sleeve weather in these parts. Nan

    1. I guess, I didn't know that you don't wear short sleeve shirts at all. That makes things easier in the closet.

  8. Hello gorgeous! The fringe is really cute, and I love the flower in your hair too! That is such a pretty blouse and sounds like a real feat of genius to make it with so little of that lovely fabric and with a hole! The pink belt is my favourite - you look great! xxx

  10. Love your blouse. Is it from the Legacy Studio brand at Joanns? Or from the calico quilting section? It is so springy, courgeous with your skirt. Oh and the bangs, very pretty, I just trimed mine after growing them out(i go through bang phases) and I do believe they "soften"
    the face, especially after 30.
Anyway, love your sewing projects, you are so talented and have such pretty tastes!

    1. Irene, it's not from the quilting side, it maybe legacy. I saw a 1/2 of bolt at joanns about a month ago. It's a shirting cotton for sure. Has some weight to it. Thank you Irene, I like the ladylike look.

  11. Hello!
Your blog is very inspiring and I love that you love the Ginger, I do too. Is that a Ginger you're wearing with your lovely new blouse?

    1. Yes, it's a Ginger. I have done a few Gingers with a thinner waistband to them. I take out about an 1 1/2 off the width so that it hits me at the true waist. It's a hard pattern to get away from.

  15. That is one darn pretty top. I don't think I would dare wearing such collar though. Just too loud for me. :)

  16. Don't you look adorable!! What an attractive outfit on you. YOu are such a wonderful seamstress, Gina. I love reading your blog to see what you sew up next. Your hair looks very cute by the way. My husband has been bugging me for years to cut bangs again, and you may have inspired me to do just that. I like the freedom of pulling my hair back though, and not having to worry about cutting bangs all the time. Let me know how it goes.:)

  17. Such a cute blouse, but I have to admit that I like it even more with the "v" belt. It looks very similar to what they wore in Edwardian times with their shirtwaists.

    Happy sewing!

  18. I hate it when there's a whole or stain in the middle of the yardage! Glad you were able to work around it. The blouse is lovely. I really like the collar, and it looks great paired with the peach skirt.

The pink belt is so cute! I was curious, how does the belt close? Does it close in the back? I can't tell from the pics. Rather than being envious of your vintage find, I would love to attempt copying it. :) Thanks!

    1. Hi Becca, it closes in the back. It's funny because there are a lot of these kinds of belts at the thrifts. I think it was about 2.00 dollars. Not too much to pay for a belt. Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Thanks! If only it were as simple as that for me. But alas, i rarely find belts like that at my local thrift stores. Two dollars is definitely a good deal for a belt.

  20. Love it! I never would have chosen that particular fabric for a blouse before seeing this but it works so well with that particular cut of blouse. It's very Spring-y too!

  21. Firstly: I love your bangs! I've been toying with the idea of cutting bangs too, since I keep seeing them popping up everywhere. But I'm such a chicken with my hair. ;) lol.

That blouse is gorgeous--the print just pops! Love it with the pink, v-shape belt especially; a very springy look!

  22. Lovely blouse. I'm really liking that collar shape lately. And what a perfect match to your peach skirt. The peach (pink?) belt is really cute with it.

  24. For some reason I never think to wear a belt over an untucked blouse, but here it really pulls the look together and I just love it with that pink belt!
