40's blouse

One last time for this pattern, I think. LOL Are you bored with this style yet? I couldn't help it. The truth is, I made the red blouse and purple one at the same time. Sometimes it just easier to make two of the same pattern at once. The fabric is a purple gauge and matched up pretty well with my skirt from Talbot. This shirt is another Closing in the Gaps project. I am finding that sewing with gap busting in mind has been fun. My morning routine has been easy, breezy too! Although, I am not a stickler in regards to following "programs", there are a few unnecessary items that are begging for my attention to sew out of whimsical expression and pure enjoyment. So little time, sigh.

This week I've been less productive than usual. The loss of my iron due to repairs, has been a great loss indeed. While using my old iron, I feel like I am using a "toy" iron compared to the Rowenta.  Seams aren't ironing in as crisp. I love ironing while sewing. It makes a HUGE difference in the finished garment. So there may be fewer projects until I get her back. Until then we'll have to make due. Do you like ironing or is it a hassle for you?

Have a Fab Vintage day! I am glad to be back. I won't tell you I dropped my new camera while grabbing my son from harm's way. I am heartbroken over it, but glad everyone is safe!

  1. pretty! that color looks fantastic on you!

i love pressing during sewing (actually ironing my clothes before i wear them... not so much :B), which is funny to me because i spent the first half of my sewing journey avoiding the iron - i thought pressing was boring and unnecessary! it really does make a difference between something looking "homeade" and "handmade," though.

  2. Love the gauze. Love the look.

Sony-a, my camera fell onto the floor this week. Although 9 yr old, I will have my faithful "vintage" friend repaired. New camera arrived at headquarters from Japan. Yay!

  3. Sorry about your new camera but it's just a camera and after all you son is, well your son but you know that.
I have the same iron you do, bought it some years ago off Amazon and I love it, however it's certainly not the perfect iron. The cord is in the middle of the base and when it sits down upright the cord is there not off to the side.
The other negative is it eats gallons of water. I have a new ironing board in a box for months here that will mount on the wall of my new craft room someday, it swivels and then folds into a case on the wall to slip away from sight. I do love the blouse you made, colors all very nice and summery. I sit in church looking at these women your age thinking, wish more of them could dress like you do, they have off the rack ill fitting and wrongly styled for their body clothing and to top it off really ugly colors and jazzy wild patterns. Oh well this too shall pass lol..

  5. Love the gauze. Love the look!

My old camera fell onto the floor this week. Fortunately a new camera was already on the way, but I'll still get my "vintage" 2001 Sony-a repaired.

  6. I do iron carefully during garment construction...less so on finished garments! Ironing while sewing feels like part of the creative process somehow, while other ironing just feels like a chore. :)

  9. Love the colour, it looks lovely!
Mmmm, yes I love ironing my projects whilst stitching them, I agree, I think it really makes a difference to the finished garment. I also like ironing my clothes too, I love the look of a nicely pressed shirt or dress, in fact it drives me crazy when my son puts on clothes that are not ironed properly, I make him take them off again and iron them, he is 23 and should know better!!!

  10. The color is so pretty! And it is such a good idea to make a style several times...this way you know it fits well and you will wear it more often! :0)

  11. I love this color on you. That is so great that you found a pattern that works so well, you have made multiples. It also goes so well with your colorful skirt. (I completely dislike ironing, but it is a necessity when sewing. Too bad yours needs to be repaired, hopefully you will have it back soon).

  12. Pretty top! Most of my sewing is from a Interior Design background, Clothing is a new type of sewing for me...ironing is half of making custom window treatments and interior items. Iron sew a little, iron a lot more, sew a bit more, Iron a lot more. That is the world of custom interior sewing, I am finding clothing sewing to be the same :O). I don't mind it as it does really make a huge difference.

  15. Ooh - hope your camera's OK!
I often make a few of the same style - especially tops - you can never have too many tops!

  16. It's a flattering style and color on you so why not make a few? When I used to shop more I would buy flattering things in multiple colors occasionally . It's also so much easier to make a pattern the second time.

So sorry to hear about the camera mishap--hope everything is okay otherwise! :)

  19. I love the color shade of purple for this blouse.

I'm not a fan of ironing, but then again, I don't sew, and I have heard that ironing and sewing go together quite well. :)

  20. I have a same feeling about for your iron, my last iron lasted exactly five months and it was an ironing center, now the seams do not look the same ... however, your blouse is amazing and it is the perfect match for your skirt, oh, my favorite color is lavender!
