Springtime happiness, 40's blouse & skirt

Yes, I know it's not spring yet, but something bright and happy makes the winter blues go away. Anyone ready for spring out there?  I am ready to step into spring with this new outfit.   Love has hatched with this 40's blouse. The detail of the yoke back makes me smile.  I did stumble a bit through the 1940's instructions, but am so glad I got through them because the blouse is so comfortable.  I have total freedom of movement in the arms and back area. I believe the back yoke helps a lot.  I have been making and enjoying separates lately.   Right now the basic wardrobe builders are very important to me. Have you ever notice that sometimes it's hard to find the basics at the stores? Even just a plain black skirt with minimal design can be a challenge. So I am making Ginger skirts in as many colors as I can, stash bustin along the way. I have never worn white on the lower half of my body, (except my wedding day) but as I age I am letting go of the idea of having the perfect body and since made peace with my legs. So here's to freedom in not following my old "thin rule".  If you don't know that rule. It goes like this, wear whatever makes you look the thinnest at all times and at all cost! I have lived this way and began to realize that I only wore black for years. How boring of me! So here's to breaking out the shell.

Have a wonderful vintage day,

Gina

  1. LOVE! That blouse fabric looks so floaty and dreamy. And that color combination is absolutely perfect on you :)

  2. That's a gorgeous outfit, and I'm really in love with the way the blouse is put together. I can see that without sleeve seams you can move so much more easily. Lovely shape from all those darts, and such a pretty neckline.

I think having an elegant skirt that fits really well (like your Gingers) is more important than the colour for helping to look slimmer (not that you need help). You look beautiful, and are definitely ready for spring - I hope we don't have to wait too long! xxx

  4. The blouse is beautiful! I'm obsessed with that minty color right now.

I hear you on not being able to find good basics. I've been looking for the perfect white blouse and brown boots for YEARS. They don't exist. Everything in stores are so fussy!

  5. Oh Gina, what a breezy outfit! I love them both together and you'll be able to mix and match them so well with other things. You always look slender to me, but I guess it's important to let go of the idea of the perfect body to find true happiness!

Anyway, I'm ready to bypass spring and go straight to summer...it's soooo cold here :o(

  6. What a lovely outfit in those dreamy Spring colors. I bet that blouse pattern would fit across my shoulder area!! Thanks for the link on adjusting you sent me. You are not having much of a winter there are you. We are smack in the middle of a very wet snow with temps at 31 blizzard right now with gusts up to 50.

  9. Your new outfit looks very feminine and comfortable. Of course, I was a bit shocked to see you modeling springtime clothes in the wintertime, but I can't blame you. I am ready for spring to come too.

Yes, it is hard to find "basic clothing" in the stores without all those silly designs on them. I have that problem all the time. Also, even if you can find clothes without those silly designs, they are somehow ugly and/or immodest, ugh! :(

I like your "Thin Rule." I need to try it sometime. However, unlike you, I haven't made peace wit my legs yet, but I'm working on it. :)

  12. That'a a lovely outfit for spring Gina. I love the details on the 1940's blouse.
I also wore black for years but hardly ever do now. I just wear the styles I like that suit my shape the best. And the Ginger skirt is a complete winner from that point of view! I've made two and there are plans for more! I've also got plans for a white skirt for summer so it's nice to see your lovely version. x

  14. Suzy, I hardly know what the fabric is, I found it at the thrift. I am thinking a lawn or thin cotton. It's very floaty and cool.
