old patterns

These are some of my oldest patterns,  I think they are from the 20's.  I am in love with the details of these wonderful dresses. It's so funny how times have changed. If you look for instructions to make these beauties, you will find them printed on the pattern itself. For example, on McCall 6471, it simply states join the underarm seam to the bodice of the dress. Yes, we have come a long way with instructions for sure. I bought these patterns years ago before vintage sewing was in. So they were priced pretty reasonable.
This past week I found these Colette patterns waiting for me in my mailbox. I am so excited to get cracking with them. I love the ginger skirt and have been wanting to make it for awhile. Finally, remodeling in our home is almost done, things are returning to a new normal, hooray!  It's time to sew again!

Have a wonderful vintage day!

  1. They're beautiful! I've always been a little unsure about if 20s style dresses would work out for my short little frame, but looking at these patterns, I don't think I'd rightly care. Super sweet, but really simple lines and with great details. Love 'em!

  2. Oh! Such lovely patterns! I really like the one with the skirt panels like 'wings' - wouldn't it be fun to flutter around in that?! I'd like to try a pattern like that someday : )

I've heard great things about Colette patterns - have fun!

  4. These are so lovely! I only have a couple 20s patterns (at best), as the 20s silhouette has never been the most flattering on me. But I love so many of the details--especially the sweet collars and sleeve styles. Thank you so much for sharing these!

  5. I'm glad to hear that the remodeling in your home is almost done, and you're back to sewing again. I'm supposed to start my sewing class in two weeks, unless I continue to have neck and back pain, ugh! We'll see.

I like those old vintage patterns. You certainly don't see dresses like that in the modern stores of today. Too bad.

  6. Your 20s patterns are fabulous, but I am so grateful that later instructions got more detailed...otherwise I wouldn't get much sewing done! I too have a Ginger skirt on my sewing table, can't wait ti see yours!

  11. You have that golden spot in patters, the transition time form the 20s to the 30s. Id estimate based on the styles and cuts (especially the asymmetrical skirts), that they are late 20s to very early 30s (28-33). They are beautiful.
