I top-stitched this skirt! |
|
I am thinking about these for fall. |
I am thrilled to have a red skirt in my closet now. It was so needed! This lonely 1960's blouse was without a match for the whole summer. I will be honest, the making of this skirt came to a haul because of the belt hoops. They are made from gaberdine fabric and wouldn't iron flat without a fight. So, it took me awhile to get them in shape and looking right. I am pretty happy with how this skirt turned out. The pictures are not the best, they were taken with a low battery, so sorry for the bad lighting. How are things with your sewing? I have been thinking a lot about culottes, I wore them back in the 80's and loved them. My closet is full of some great winter fabrics, that are begging to be pulled out. It's getting cold here in Ohio. Oh, I think I hear my sewing room calling!
Have a wonderful vintage day!

Hi Gina you look great in this cute red skirt and the dots on the top, love dots!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned having that problem pressing gabardine as I too have had it on the synthetic gabardine but on the real deal the gabardine with actual wool I have not. I just finished a red dress with what I'll call real gabardine red dress and then the type which I believe had poly in it which I'm at this minute making a 1948 suit jacket and having a terrible time pressing the collar area flat. So now I know it's not me what typical then with this fabric.

ReplyDeleteSorry Gina for some odd reason my comment posted 3 times! I took two of them out!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely skirt! Red is such a nice color on you : ) The top stitching is a nice detail and I love the belt too!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is spectacular! You'll get a lot of bang outta that buck this fall for sure. Cute on you, Vintage Girl!
ReplyDeleteI love the "gaucho" or "culotte" pattern as well. Remember it well.
I love your red skirt, and your skirt patterns for the fall look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've recently made my own sewing curriculum. I plan to begin working on this in October. I still need to learn the basics before I pursue a real sewing project, sigh. Hopefully some day soon, I will get there.
In the meantime I have a question, how can you make a skirt length longer for a short skirt pattern? Just wondering.
I love your red skirt. It is so pretty and looks great on you.. I too am ready to start some fall garments.Happy sewing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty skirt, the colour is lovely! I love the blouse too :)

Hi Madame, Well that is a great question. It depends on the skirt shape. If you want to add length then you need some tools to do it with, mostly a french ruler. to shorten you can take it off the bottom or many patterns have a shorten or lengthen line right on them. If you take length off the bottom you may not get the "fullness" of the shape where the skirt ends. Sometimes I do cut off the bottom because A lines can get too full for me. I am not explaining this very well. Maybe a post is in order. Happy sewing! Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteA red skirt is perfect for fall - and very cheery, too. I really like the unique blouse, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great skirt. I really love the top stitching on it.
ReplyDeleteHooray for red skirts! (Says she who is never able to resist one when it's spotted at the thrift store...) I love how yours looks--very sporty, yet classic. :) Can't beat those 70s sportswear patterns for being great, flattering styles when it comes to a-line skirts.
ReplyDeleteHere's to some fall sewing; I've been itching to get started on my list but life has been too hectic these past few weeks. Oh well... hehe!
Great skirt! Love the color and how you got the color contrast with the seams added.
ReplyDeleteIt's been too long since I've left you a comment...
ReplyDeleteI love your red skirt. How perfectly it matches with your polka-dot top.
Happy Sewing!
